Record-breaking Dustin Johnson Wins First Masters Title with the Lowest Score in Tournament History

In this one-of-a-kind Masters that had no fans and no roars, Johnson set a 72-hole scoring record of 20 under, the lowest score to par in the history of the Masters at Augusta National. Johnson was presented the Masters green jacket by defending Masters champion Tiger Woods.

Johnson closed with a 4-under 68 and finished at 20-under 268, breaking by two shots the record set by Tiger Woods in 1997 and matched by Jordan Spieth in 2015. He had only four bogeys in 72 holes, another record, this one held by Jack Nicklaus and Jimmy Demaret. He missed only 12 greens all week, a record last set by Woods.

Coming off the 18th green Sunday afternoon, as the winner by five shots, Johnson told Bubba Watson, native son of the Florida Panhandle and a two-time Masters winner, “I’ve been dreaming of putting on that jacket all my life.”

“It’s a dream come true. As a kid, always dreamed about being a Masters champion,” said Johnson, choking up while trying to explain what the victory meant to him. “It’s hard to talk. It’s just incredible, obviously, as you can tell.”
