It was expected to be a rainy day in Tokyo yesterday which allowed our Malaysian Golfer, Gavin Green to take a break from training and prepare himself mentally for the upcoming Olympic Golf competition. While on his break, we managed to squeeze in a little chat with him to get a glimpse of what’s happening at the Olympics and to show our support for our national rising golfer.
This year will mark his 2nd time competing in the Olympics after Rio in 2016. It has been a tough year for Gavin as for most athletes having to train during the pandemic and being away from home but Gavin is hopeful to give his all at the competition.
“I have been struggling the whole year, everybody knows that. I haven’t been able to come home. I’ve just been on the road non-stop for 3 months already. So it’s been a little hard but I’m always working hard and trying to improve. There were really good signs towards the last few weeks and my game has been constantly getting tighter. I really hope that it clicks in Tokyo. It’s a week that I really want to do well too.”
On a lighter note, Gavin also spoke about the possibility of his younger brother Galven Green competing alongside him in the next Olympics in 2024. Galven has just turned professional and we’re really excited to watch both the brothers represent Malaysia in future golf competitions.
We at Gila Golfers are always rooting for the Greens!
